Over the years, I’ve documented a lot of my modelmaking activities on my blog. The problem is that blog is now defunct. Everything it contained is now gone.

Don’t worry, I’m not about to launch into a Monty Python parody. Some sort of recap is in order, though.

A bit of background: My parents always encouraged my sister and me to be creative. Eventually, they accepted that my creativity also included making models of things. My interest in recreating real things at small scales has never gone away, not helped by an endless fascination with all forms of transport.

My work background is in graphic design, by way of civil engineering. I became self-employed in 2001, and graphic design was my main business. One day, I was asked if I would build some model railway carriages for a friend. Then, I was asked by more people to quote for building their models. Before I knew it, I found myself a professional modelmaker.

To my surprise, I find I have been making models for people now for over a decade!

Equally to my surprise, I find I don’t really enjoy making railway models any more. As I approach a certain age, I plan to wind down my professional modelling activities. I won’t stop making models, but they’ll be of things I find interesting.
