Dawn Raids

I miss what I called Dawn Raids. It’s been years since I did one.

I should explain. A Dawn Raid in my world consists of planning a photographic expedition, usually down to the River Medway and its estuary. The planning involves keeping an eye on the weather, tide tables, and the time the sun will rise. Once the planning was set, I would get up at very stupid o’clock and head off with my camera gear.

With the trip done, I would head home, copy the results off the camera card, select the good stuff and do the basic processing I usually do, and then share the results.

I make no excuses for liking black and white photography.

This Flickr gallery is the result of a Dawn Raid. It dates from 2012. That was yesterday, only it was actually a dozen years ago.

I miss Dawn Raids. I miss the planning, the preparation, the anticipation, the execution. Sadly, domestic life rather prevents me heading out at the crack of dawn—for now.
