In 2012 I thought it might be fun to organise regular monthly photo walks around Kent. I managed to persuade a hard core of fellow photographers to play along. I enjoyed seeing how others approached making photos of the same subject, and sharing tips and techniques. We also shared the results of our labours via the late lamented medium of Google+. Don’t judge. It was a good place for photographers.
As ever with such things, numbers attending walks tailed off, interest generally began to wane, I found it harder to be enthused about planning and organising things, and eventually we pulled the plug. Over the period of about a year we managed nine walks around Kent. It was fun while it lasted.
There is something about the Romney Marsh, Dungeness and the Denge. It is an other-worldly place, a proper liminal space, that seems to have little to do with the rest of the coast on either side. I love it, and I should try to get down there again before too long.
